Big
Band Sounds of Green Valley was formed in 1991 to
play big band dance and
concert music for Green Valley and surrounding area
audiences. The orchestra
comprises five trumpets, four trombones, five saxophones
and four rhythms
(piano, bas
s,
drums and guitar). Erin Howell, a young and talented
singer from
Marana, joined the band in October 2005, and has
proved extremely popular with all audiences.
The band’s library has grown to some 400 orchestrations,
including arrangements played by such great bands
as Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Woody Herman, Glen
Miller, Stan Kenton, Duke Ellington and Count Basie.
In choosing programs for dances and concerts, the
band focuses on standard tunes which audiences will
know well, and they select special arrangements
which add interest and demand more of the musicians.
